What is an Android Tablet?
As you read in a previous Googitechie´s article, Android was designed primarily for mobile devices such as smartphones and tablet computers. If you missed it you can find it here. The Motorola Xoom was the first device to run Android 3.0 also called as Honeycomb in 2011. The Honeycomb is the first version officially approved for Tablets. However, the first LTE Android Tablet appeared late 2009 and it was made by ICD for Verizon.
An Android tablet is a tablet PC. Microsoft used first the term Tablet PC in 2000 to describe a prototype handheld device with a flat touch-screen interface and a pen enabled. Nowadays, this mobile computing device is larger than a smartphone or personal digital assistant, generally you can find it at 7 inches (18 cm) or larger, and those devices are equipped with sensors, cameras, microphone, accelerometer which detects the physical movement and orientation of the tablet and also touchscreen, with finger or stylus gestures and a popup virtual keyboard usually used for typing, this great feature replace the computer mouse and keyboard.
A Tablet PC offer lots of great features, let s consider some of them:
1) Hardware: The physical elements that comprise a Tablet PC.
• High-definition, anti-glare display.
• Wireless internet connectivity (usually with Wi-Fi, but some Tablets can be sold with 3G or 4G wireless data access, then those Tablets require a Data Plan just like phones to access the Internet
• GPS satellite location.
• Front- and/or back- facing camera(s) for photographs and video.
• Lower weight and longer battery life than a comparably-sized laptop.
• Bluetooth for connecting peripherals and communicating with local devices.
• Docking station: Keyboard and USB port(s)
2) Software
• Minibrowser.
• Reader for digital books, periodicals and other content.
• Downloadable apps such as games, education and utilities.
• Portable media player function including video playback.
• E-mail and social media (such as Google+, Twitter, Facebook).
• Mobile phone functions (messaging, speakerphone, address book).
• Video-teleconferencing.
• Speech recognition (include voice dialling, call routing, speech-to-text processing, and so on)
3) Data storage.
• On-board flash memory.
• Ports for removable storage (such as memory cards)
• Cloud storage options for backup and syncing data across devices.
In 2012 Google introduced the Nexus 7 and Nexus 10 tablets. Hardware makers that have shipped Android tablets include now these companies: Acer, Asus, Samsung, Toshiba and Sony. the question is what is the best Android Tablet? The list below is considered the top 10 best Android tablets 2013.
